Being the time of the year when finances have made a bad hit on me, life couldn't have been better without a credit card scam. Yes, you heard it right, finally I made the grand entry to the list of people who have been scammed. All the usual bragging about specializing in Computer Security was now worth two cents or may be less.
Well, it so happened that way back in 2006, I decided to be cheap and bought some merchandise from classic closeouts which was just under ten bucks. And I still very well remember that at the option of remembering my credit card details, I had ticked the "big-fat-no" checkbox in the online form. What turned out later was that it actually did and on July 9th, 2008, I saw a unauthorized charge on my credit card for $69.99 by Classic closeouts. Now, first I thought, either I was loosing it (read getting old) or something unexplainable was happening. But things cleared out soon enough when I found similar complaints all over!
So: today's morning started with :
1. Deleting my account from that *&^%@ site.
2. Requesting my credit card company to close down my current account and open a new one.
3. Filing a dispute with my credit card company.
And what you can surely do is to stay away from classic closeouts (Yes, the site is still out there)! The guys out there have some really serious explaining to do. Classic closeouts ?
I just noticed on their
By Stranger! (not verified)I just noticed on their website that their address is listed as Suite 121, 56 Tavistock Place, PO Box 130, London, England, WH1C9RG- NOT New York!!! This must be an international ring of thieves. The money probably goes from London to Nigeria where most of these internet scammers are located. CONTACT LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT if you have been scammed by these people!!!
Well, I never bought anything
By Stranger! (not verified)Well, I never bought anything from this company (unless they are a seller on eBay) and I had that $69.99 charge on my acct dated 7-11-08, another one for $69.99 dated 8-11-08, and a third one for $79.99 dated 8-22-08. I called Capital One and got them refunded. NOW they have the audacity to dispute the claim and Capital One gave them the $79.99 back. They provide NO proof I did any business with them, just a form letter stating that this was a "one-time" fee for joining their membership club. I have sent all information to my state attorney general.

Classic Clsouts Scam
By Stranger! (not verified)It appears that fraudulent charges from the company began in the past 3 weeks)there are many people experiencing fraudulant practices by this company. I made a single purchase directly (online, through the merchant directly, from their website) with the company in 2004. On 7/1/2008 (over 4 years later)I observed a 69.99 charge in my bank account from Classic Closeouts. I have made many phonecalls to the company and have emailed the company and they remain unreturned (as with the many other "victims" of these charges). I have called my bank and canceled my card that the company charged against and, am hopefully expecting a full reimbursement from my bank, but............... I have performed many queries on line in the past couple of days and found that their is a huge amount of information on the internet regarding the company and these charges that they are just recently placing against a growing amount of individuals Credit cards and debit cards. The charges range from 39.99 to 79.00 and some individuals have more than one of these charges. Many indivuals had never ordered or performed any type of business with this company and are unsure if they perhaps conducted business with a "sister" company of Classic Closeouts. Today I have filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and the New York States Attorneys office. The individual that is named online as owner of the company is Daniel Greenberg located in Hempstead, NY. Watch your Credit Card and Bank Statements very carefully!!
